Joe Niermann’s daughters, Eleanor and Claire, grew up side by side with the business, and have taken over the design reins since Joe’s retirement. They will discuss the different methods, both old and new, of designing, fabricating and finishing products. The process involves everything from cardboard cutouts and 3-D computer modeling to hand forging and lasers. Prepare to be amazed!
Founded in 1978 by Joe, Niermann Weeks is a family-owned company now in its second generation. The company’s classically inspired pieces and design aesthetics relate to both traditional and contemporary interiors. All products are handmade and finished in their Maryland studio, and almost half of their business is dedicated to custom designs to meet the special needs of professional interior designers.

Hunt Slonem, acclaimed artist and author, will discuss the greatest inspirations behind his artwork and his new collection for Lee Jofa.
Slonem is a nationally recognized painter, sculptor and printmaker best known for his Neo-Expressionist paintings. Slonem has traveled all over the world, but it was his childhood spent in Hawaii, and a year studying in Nicaragua, that had the most profound impact on his life’s work. The vivid color combinations and exotic wildlife he encountered there inspire him to this day. The motifs he explored in his early works, tropical birds, butterflies, bunnies and portraits, have been reduced to their essence and have become recurring themes in his exceptional paintings. This past fall, Groundworks introduced an exclusive collection of fabrics, wallpapers and carpets inspired by Slonem’s extraordinary art.
